The cosmos, as it is currently understood, is vast and largely unknown. While knowledge is shared between the many sapient species, there remain countless phenomena beyond collective understanding.
Even within charted space, certainty is limited. Terra itself is considered approximately 90% discovered, yet even within that margin, much remains unseen or poorly understood.
Beyond this, the true scale of the cosmos cannot be defined. Its boundaries are not known, only the regions that have been reached. Of that, the living have explored less than 0.5%.

As planetary resources continue to decline, a shift has begun. Increasingly, civilizations are turning toward the idea of space-based habitation, with long-term plans favoring large-scale station living over planetary dependence.
However, not all regions of space are accessible. Certain zones remain too hostile or unstable for consistent travel.
To better categorize the known expanse, space has been divided into six zones based on distance from Terra and environmental characteristics:
Epigaios → Mesogaios → Bathygaios → Abyssogaios → Hadogaios → Rugaios
The Rugaios marks the outermost known zone. Here, star systems begin to thin, then vanish entirely, giving way to a vast and uninterrupted void.
This expanse is the largest supervoid ever observed. All recorded expeditions attempting to cross it have failed to return. It is assumed these vessels were either destroyed or remain in transit beyond any recoverable range, likely to outlast the civilizations that launched them.
At present, the Rugaios has no known boundary.

In XXXX, Valis Enterprise initiated a project titled “The Rugaios Expedition.”
The operation was overseen by Valis Enterprise’s O-Branch, in collaboration with the Seres Research Agency. Participants, primarily prisoners from multiple planets and colonies, were offered the opportunity to voluntarily take part.
Using a single, functioning warp gate, approximately 4,000 individuals were transported to Valis M12, a planet located within the Rugaios zone. The mission objective was resource extraction and the study of the surrounding system, designated Muvanon.
Initial plans outlined continued expansion deeper into the Rugaios.
However, the subsequent destruction of the warp gate has halted all further progression.
At present, no additional expeditions are possible.
The Epigaios Zone
The nearest expanse to Terra, densely charted and heavily inhabited, where interstellar infrastructure is most stable and widely maintained.
The Mesogaios Zone
A transitional region where known space begins to thin, marked by expanding frontiers, emerging colonies, and increasing gaps in reliable navigation.
The Bathygaios Zone
A deep-space frontier where systems grow sparse and environmental instability becomes more common.
The Abyssogaios Zone
A fragmented region where superclusters themselves begin to become rare. Anomalies are frequent here and expeditions operate with limited support.
The Hadogaios Zone
The edge of the hypercluster. The supervoids are much larger here. Operations here are considered to operate with little to no support.
The Rugaios Zone
The point of no return. The beginning of the true void.
People have attempted to travel past this point but have never returned. All technology currently cannot see anything past this edge. It’s believed there is nothing further than this.
There are only 3 young systems currently at this edge, all highly isolated from one another.
